About us
The people behind New England Tree Service
New England Tree Service is owned and run by Paul Leary. He worked in the trades for 27 years, and for more than 15 years now he has helped home-service contractors across New England reach the homeowners who are searching for them.
This is a referral service, not a tree company. We don't own saws, chippers, grinders or bucket trucks, nobody here climbs or cuts, and we never quote a job. Whatever you agree to, the price, the date and the cleanup, is settled between you and the tree company.
What happens to your request
No tree services are participating yet, so each request comes to us. We review it and reply by the next business day. For now we can't promise to introduce you to a tree company in your town. If a tree or limb is on a power line, or a wire is down, stay at least 30 feet away and call 911 or your electric company. If a tree has hit your house and anyone is hurt, or the house may be unsafe, call 911 first.
We send a request to one company at most. If your area is later handed to a different company, your earlier request stays where it was unless you tell us you want it passed on.
What a tree company has to show us
A tree company receives no requests from New England Tree Service until we have:
- seen a current certificate of general liability insurance that covers tree work;
- confirmed workers' compensation coverage on the state's lookup, if the company has employees;
- checked, on the certifying body's own directory, any arborist certification the company tells customers its people hold (Massachusetts Certified Arborist with the Massachusetts Arborists Association, ISA Certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture).
Every participating company also agrees in writing to the towns it covers, the jobs it takes and how fast it will respond. A company that stops meeting those terms comes off the area.
Two things worth knowing. The Massachusetts Certified Arborist program is voluntary, run by a private association with no connection to any government agency (MCA program). And you can check any Massachusetts employer's workers' compensation coverage yourself (state coverage lookup).
Only one company per area
No area has more than one participating company. Participating companies may pay New England Tree Service for marketing. That has no effect on the checks above, and homeowners never pay anything to use the service.
